A powerful blast struck a shia mosque in Islamabad during Friday prayers, killing at least 69 people and injuring more than 169 others, according to initial reports. The explosion caused panic inside the mosque, with heavy damage reported to the building and surrounding area.
Rescue teams and police rushed to the spot immediately after the incident. The injured were taken to nearby hospitals, including PIMS and CDA hospital, where several victims are said to be in critical condition.
Security Tightened, Probe Underway
Following the blast, security forces sealed the area and launched and investigation to determine the cause for the explosion. Forensic teams are collecting evidence from the site, while bomb disposal units remain on alert.
Pakistan Prime Minister: Shehbaz Sharif condemned the attack and expressed brief over the loss of lives. Authorities have assured streak action once the investigation is complete.
